Lancôme products used

Fresh-faced beauty was certainly the trend at this year's Golden Globes and there was no shortage of the natural, dewy elegance everywhere. Lancôme has been kind enough to share the makeup looks, products used and tips for three of the night's gorgeous actresses: Kate Winslet, Anne Hathaway and Angelina Jolie. Here's the scoop.

Celebrity makeup artist Jillian Dempsey did Lancôme ambassador Kate Winslet’s makeup and gave us the scoop on the makeup she used. Jillian wanted to play up Kate’s eyes, cheeks and lips. She used Jillian Dempsey for Avon Professional Kohl Eyeliner in Black on the upper lash line first and then applied dark brown eyeliner and smudged it on the lower lashes. Next, she lightly dusted Lancôme Color Design Eye Shadow in Chic on the eyelid. To make Kate’s eyes pop, she added a few coats of Lancôme Ôscillation Mascara in Black. Next, Jillian added some color to the apples of the cheeks by custom blending several shades of coral, peachy blushes together. Jillian opted for a classic red lip and finished the look with Avon Pro-to-Go Lipstick in Cherry Glisten. Kate looked stunning as she accepted the first award of the night for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Reader!

Celebrity makeup artist Kate Lee created the gorgeous look for Lancôme ambassador Anne Hathaway. Anne looked statuesque in a beautiful navy Armani Privé gown that complimented her alabaster skin tone. Kate wanted to create a classic beauty look, so she chose to focus on the eyes and lips. She applied a dark liner to the base of the lashes and used a small brush to blend a dark eye shadow from the lash line upwards. Chanel Soft Touch Eye Shadow in Slate was applied to the crease and along the lower lash line. Next, she curled the lashes with a Shu Uemura eyelash curler and applied several layers of Chanel Inimitable Waterproof Mascara in Noir. For the brows, Kate used Lancôme Le Crayon Poudre in Brunet which was perfect to gently add depth and definition to Anne’s brows. Lancôme Effacernes Concealer in Ivoire was applied under the eyes. Kate sculpted the cheekbones with Chanel Powder Blush in Nude and then applied Lancôme Absolue Powder in Absolute Peche to the top of the cheek bones and along the jaw and clavicle. The lips were a dark raspberry stain. To achieve this, she used a neutral lip liner that matched the color of Anne’s natural lip shade and then applied Chanel Hydrabase Lipstick in Lotus Rouge and blended so here were no hard lines of color. Finally, Chanel Poudre Cristalline was applied to take away the shine from the forehead, nose and chin. A quick spritz of Lancôme Magnifique and Anne was out the door!

Celebrity makeup artist Mary Burton created the beautiful look for Angelina Jolie and gave us an exclusive glimpse on how to recreate it. Angelina looked ravishing in a sparkling, silver Versace floor-length gown. Mary wanted to create a sheer, natural look and choose to focus on the eyes. She applied Lancôme Artliner in Noir (my favorite eyeliner, by the way) to the lash line starting at the inner corner and blending out. To create drama, Mary used two different mascaras, Lancôme Courbe Virtuôse Mascara in Black and Lancôme Ôscillation Mascara in Black and applied a few coats of both to add volume and length. She added just a touch of color to the apples of her cheeks by applying Lancôme Color Design Blush in Model Mocha with her finger. To finish the look, Mary used Lancôme Juicy Tubes in Spring Fling for a soft, pale pink, glossy pout.

Here are more beautiful faces to admire and makeup looks to recreate.

Amanda Seyfreid - deep, berry-red lips and gorgeous in a Stella McCartney gown; Christina Applegate bejeweled in a Lorraine Schwartz floral necklace; Freida Pinto - of Slumdog Millionaire fame dazzled in a golden mustard Christian LaCroix Haute Couture frock; Isla Fischer - demure and sweet in this Carlos Miele assymetrical dress; January Jones - gorgeous in bright coral-red lipstick and bright a bright blue Versace gown; Julie Benz - her dress got a lot of flack but I thought she looked lovely in her sea foam gown and elegant ponytail; Olivia Wilde - ultra-feminine in a lavender Reem Acra gown and jewels from Van Cleef & Arpels, warm peachy cheeks, defined eyes and nude lips; Taraji P. Henson - played Brad Pitt's mom in Benjamin Button; she was absolutely luminous in her J. Mendel dress, understated makeup long, lavish lashes and dangling earrings; Hayden Panettiere - it's all about softness, flushed cheeks with a warm glow, well defined eyes, flawless luminous skin and a nudey-pink lip.

Kate Winslet won two Golden Globes!

As the 2009 award season commences, the look of the night was simple and tasteful hairstyles. Pureology PureArtists, Mary Katherine Hecht and Sherilynn Smart give us the latest hair trends from last night’s red carpet event and tips how to achieve the look at home.

The top three trends seen on the red carpet…
1. French Twist as seen on Kate Winslet, Eva Mendes and Christina Applegate
2. Classic Upsweep as seen on Evan Rachel Wood, Amanda Seyfried
3. Modern Chignon as seen on Anna Paquin, Eva Longoria, Kate Beckensale

How to achieve…

French Twist:

1) Blow dry hair using a cocktail of Pureology NanoGlaze and PureVolume BlowDryAmplifier.
2) Use a curling iron to set hair using Pureology SprayGel and alternate barrel size and direction for that old Hollywood glamour.
3) Softly twist hair and pin while taming flyaway’s with Pureology NanoWorks ShineLuxe.

Classic Upsweep

1) Blow dry hair using a cocktail of Pureology NanoGlaze and PowerDressing.
2) Set hair away from the face in hot rollers with Pureology SuperStraight HotIronProtectionSpray.
3) Remove the rollers when cool.
4) Finger rake the hair with Pureology NanoWorks ShineLuxe working it all the way through to the ends.
5) Without combing or brushing the hair, pull the hair back using your hands only into a loose ponytail opposite of the nose.
6) Take the ponytail and separate into 3-5 sections depending on the thickness of the hair.
7) Smooth each section with a soft brush to shine the hair, and place in a large pincurl. Use a bobbypin to secure it around the ponytail.
8) Continue to pin each section around the ponytail until all the sections are pinned up.
9) Finish up with Pureology GlossingMist for shine and InChargePlus for hold.

Modern Chignon

1) Apply Pureology StylingLotion from root to end. Blow dry.
2) Section the head from the highpoint of the head to the ears separating the front of the head from the back.
3) Using Pureology InCharge for added texture lightly backbrush the crown area.
4) Cocktail Pureology DryShine and ShineMax and work through the front section from hairline to the ends. Use this cocktail on the ends of the back section to lend pliability to the hair.
5) Using a soft brush smooth the hair into a low ponytail in the center of the nape opposite of the lips.
6) Fold the hair under and pin at the hairline.
7) Finish with Pureology InChargePlus for amazing hold.

What a night! Did you watch the 66th Annual Golden Globes Awards? If so, you saw a much simpler elegance than we've seen in years at the award's show last night. I have so much to talk about and I'm scrambling to find you the best photos to get the best looks at gowns, beauty, jewelry and more.

Standout winning look of the evening for me - Drew Barrymore!

Drew rocked this look with her retro-Marilyn Monroe, blonde bombshell personna. Dressed in an off-the-shoulder, soft grey-blue John Galliano for Dior gown accesorized with a ravishing red satin Roger Vivier clutch, she is simply scrumptious. I love that muted pink lippie (anyone know which it is?) and those knockout, dangling earrings too!

Other knockout beauties

Amy Adams in Oscar de la Renta, Eva Mendes in Dior, January Jones in Versace, Kate Winslet in Yves Saint Laurent, Olivia Wilde in Reem Acra and Taraji P. Henson in J. Mendel. None of these photos really do these dresses justice - they are gorgeous!

Another hit of the evening - statement jewelry. Oh my goodness, the pieces these ladies had on are absolutely stunning. The starlets played it right, though, opting generally for one jaw-dropping piece and understated jewels elsewhere. Here are some highlights.

Leafy green earmings on Amy Adams; I LOVE those custom made earrings on Jennifer Morrison, the center jewel brings out the electricity in her dress; and this fabulous choker on Beyonce' is beyond words - all by Lorraine Schwartz

These garnet earrings worn by Kate Beckinsale are by Fred Leighton and are drop dead gorgeous!

This turquoise choker worn by Eva Mendes is a stunner compliments of Van Cleef & Arpels.

More Golden Globes scoop, my darlings!

I've just learned that Lancôme will have the fortunate honor of providing the makeup for Kate Winslet, Anne Hathaway and Angelina Jolie for the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards. All three of these leading ladies have been nominated, so it’s sure to be an exciting evening.

Following the pre-show, Lancôme will share the inside scoop straight from the celebrity makeup artists who create the red carpet beauty looks for Kate, Anne and Angelina.

Ohhhh ... I can feel all the excitement in the air for the event Sunday night. Do you have your Tivo set or are you watching live?

The 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards will be telecast live on NBC Sunday, January 11 (8 – 11 p.m. EST) at The Beverly Hilton. L’Oreal Paris consulting makeup artist Collier Strong has released his official red carpet makeup trends, which I'm pleased to bring you below. Also this year, L’Oreal Paris and jeweler Carelle have teamed up to create these GORGEOUS red carpet compacts. They are gifting the Best Actress in a Comedy and in a Drama nominees with them - oh, you lucky ladies! One of these compacts is going to be auctioned off exclusively following the Golden Globes through eBay Giving Works to benefit the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.

Collier Strong, celebrity makeup artist and consulting makeup artist for L'Oreal Paris, shows us the secrets of perfect eye shadow application. This video shows two examples of eyeshadow application. First a dramatic eye look and then a more subtle, neutral look. Watch this how to video from L'oreal Paris and you will be able to apply your eyeshadow like a pro. Want more from Collier; check out his official forecast of red carpet beauty trends for the Golden Globes.

L'Oreal Paris and The Golden Globes 2009: Red Carpet Beauty Trends

Trend 1
Focus On The Lips

“It’s all about a beautiful bold lip! Whether it’s warm or cool, a bold, opaque, red lip has a very sexy yet romantic feel. The eyes are as glamorous or neutral as your wardrobe dictates. During the day, eyes are kept simple; at night, opt for a darker look. Either way, eye makeup should be blended beautifully and brows should be perfectly groomed for an elegant look. Finish the eyes with long, beautiful lashes. Pair this look with clean, glowy makeup, achieved with foundation, concealer and powder. For cheeks, use a complementary color to the red of the lip that works with your skin tone. Apply on the apples of the check for a pop of color.” – Collier Strong, Consulting Makeup Artist, L’Oréal Paris

Trend 2
Eyes…Use Color!

“Whether it’s a wash of color or a bold, dark statement, using color on the eyes looks gorgeous. Try a beautiful violet, blue or dark purple, or coordinate your eye color with your clothing. Try using color on the upper lids only, or on the upper lids and under the lower lash line. You can even add a hint of color on the inner corners and under the eye…just make sure the edges are blended out beautifully. Think of watercolors and softness…that’s what makes this color work! Use a complementary lip and cheek color for softer eye makeup shades and a transparent lip and cheek look when using bolder eye colors.” – Collier Strong, Consulting Makeup Artist, L’Oréal Paris

Trend 3
It’s All About The Metallics!

“I love a dark, dramatic, metallic eye in black, dark brown, navy or burgundy. It’s very sexy and a great look for an evening party or event. Start with a dark liner that matches your shadow at the base of the lash. Apply a dark metallic shadow on the lid, up to the crease. Lightly run a little metallic shadow under the lower lashes. Use a lighter metallic shadow on the brow bone and on the inner corners of the eye. For a really shimmery effect, you can add an extra highlighter over the entire eyelid. Finish the eyes with dramatic, sweeping lashes. Pair this look with matte, satin skin and keep lips and cheeks very neutral.” – Collier Strong, Consulting Makeup Artist, L’Oréal Paris

I also MUST draw your attention to the fabulous gowns by Temperley of London (you all know I adore Alice Temperley's creations) and Marchesa in particular that Carolyn at the delightful Bloomacious is talking about for potential Golden Globes fashion. You simply have to check out this article - I'm drooling over those dresses.

And if that's not enough news, the adorable and savvy Tammy of A Mom in Red High Heels is basking in the glow of celebrity stars and makeup, hair, fashion, etc all day in the HBO Luxury Lounge at the Beverly Hills Four Seasons Hotel, bringing us live blogging coverage throughout the day about what’s going on with L’Oreal Paris and the Golden Globes. Oh, the life of A Mom in Red High Heels ...

Check back here over the next few days too; we'll be talking more about L'Oreal Paris, Collier Strong and their collaboration with the Golden Globes event this year.
